The main Brazilian trade unions say they are concerned after the government, the spy agency, carried out secret and lethal operations within the country with the aim of overthrowing the dictator from power.
For unionists, Trump has carried out a series of maneuvers that threaten the peace and sovereignty of Latin America.
The text is signed by Nilsa Pereira de Almeida, general secretary of Intersindical, and by the presidents Sérgio Nobre, from CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores), Miguel Torres, from Força Sindical, Ricardo Patah, from UGT (União Geral dos Trabalhadores), Adilson Araújo, from CTB (Central dos Trabalhadores do Brasil), and Antonio Neto, from CSB (Central dos Trabalhadores do Brasil), and Antonio Neto, from CSB (Central dos Trabalhadores do Brazilian Unions).
“Under the false pretext of combating drug trafficking, Donald Trump’s government conducts provocative and overt military actions, in flagrant violation of international law,” says the letter.
Among the actions in Venezuela, unionists list the sending of B-52 planes — with high destruction capacity — to fly over Venezuelan territory, the positioning of eight warships off the country’s coast, the explosion of civilian vessels and public authorization for the CIA to carry out covert operations on Latin American soil.
“Behind this speech [de Trump] is the attempt to restore the power of Venezuelan elites linked to Washington, groups that have historically impoverished the people and are trying to reverse the social advances achieved in more than two decades of the Bolivarian Revolution”, say the Brazilian leaders.
