Vienna – More than a third of young teachers have to teach in a different subject in their first year of employment. In elementary school, around 23 percent are at least partially employed in subjects for which they have no training. At the secondary level (especially middle school, AHS, BMHS) the figure is even higher at 43 percent, shows the current study “Starting a career in teaching” by the universities of teacher education, for which 785 career starters in the 2023/24 school year were surveyed online.
