With carnations in hand, the MEP confirms the candidacy she announced in August. She is running for Belém to be the “president who takes care of democracy”.
It was the intention of Catarina Martins, former leader of the Bloco de Esquerda and current deputy in Brussels for the party, to run for President of the Republic.
This Saturday, the blogger presented her candidacy at Galerias Geraldes da Silva, in Porto, with the carnations symbolizing what he claims to focus on: democracy.
Her speech focused on recalling the measures of the Bloco de Esquerda, the party for which she will run to Belém, during her participation as a deputy in Parliament. “We increased the minimum wage and pensions, reduced tuition fees and guaranteed free school textbooks”, he recalled, quoted by .
“FI was party leader for more than a decade, I ran across the country, spoke to everyone, learned as much as I could, negotiated and approved four State Budgets with measures that are still remembered today”, recalled the former deputy on Saturday morning, quoted by .
And he ended with “an appeal for us to make this movement a space for meeting and convergence. This candidacy is not defined by party lines.”
He also added that he was available to “dialogue with all people, from all walks of life, committed to democracy and who do not give up on a better country”.
