SP police arrest 7th suspect in the murder of former police chief

On Friday (October 17, 2025), the São Paulo Civil Police arrested the 7th suspect of participating in an ambush on September 15, in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo.

According to the SSP-SP (São Paulo Public Security Secretariat), the 36-year-old man is mentioned as the owner of the property in Mongaguá that would have been used by the criminal organization as a support point before and after the crime.

“He has a record of being part of a criminal organization, reception, theft and crimes against the environment”said the organization in a note. The suspect was arrested in the Jardim Gaivotas neighborhood, in the south of São Paulo.

After arrest, the man was taken to the headquarters of the DHPP (Department of Homicide and Personal Protection) and sent to a custody hearing. According to the SSP, in addition to the 7 suspects already arrested, 2 remain at large.

Former police chief Ruy Ferraz Fontes was murdered in a neighborhood close to the city hall and the Praia Grande forum.

Images from security cameras show his car fleeing, at high speed, until it overturned between two buses while trying to enter an avenue. The car that was chasing him arrived shortly after, crashed into one of the buses and 3 men with rifles jumped out of the car. Two of them went to Ruy’s car and fired. While escaping, they returned along the same avenue used in the chase.

Ferraz was a police chief for more than 40 years, having worked in the Homicide Division of the State Department of Homicide and Personal Protection and headed the General Police Station of the State of São Paulo. Before retiring, he was responsible for the arrest of leaders of the PCC (First Command of the Capital) in the 2000s.

Ruy Ferraz had taken on the position of Secretary of Administration at the city hall of the city on the coast of São Paulo.
