Then the entire side of the Silver Globe seen from our planet is in shadow, so the Moon is almost invisible. A dark sky park is a specially designated area of protected natural darkness from light pollution. There are two such places in Poland and, like nature reserves, they perform not only ecological but also educational functions. The first dark sky park in our country and the second in Europe was the Jizera Dark Sky Park (IPCN). It was created in November 2009 in the Jizera Mountains as part of the Astro Jizera project. It covers an area of 75 km² and is located on both the Polish and Czech sides of the mountain chain. This is the first cross-border area of this type in the world. The observation point is located at the Orle shelter. Getting to it is not difficult, but requires a several-kilometer walk. The second dark sky park in Poland was established in the Bieszczady Mountains in 2013. Its area covers the areas of the Eastern Carpathians Biosphere Reserve, i.e. in Poland: the Bieszczady National Park, the San Valley Landscape Park and the Ciśniańsko-Wetliński Landscape Park. In the Bieszczady Starry Sky Park, we can see about 7.5 thousand stars with a telescope or binoculars. The most popular viewing point is Lutowiska and the parking lot at the Wyżna Pass.
