Sales in the bar and restaurant sector fell 4.9% in Septemberaccording to a survey carried out by Stone and Abrasel (Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants).
In comparison with the same month in 2024, the retraction was 3,9%interrupting a three-month sequence of stability.
According to the president of Abrasel, Paulo Solmucci, the month of September was marked by a combination of factors that directly impacted sales in the sector.
One of the , which occurred in different states and mainly affected bars and nightclubs.
.
The number of deaths recorded remains at 8 and another 87 cases are still under investigation.
In addition to the contamination of drinks, the segment was also affected by inflation, which ends up restricting the population’s purchasing power, says Solmucci.
.
For the economist and researcher at Stone, Guilherme Freitas, the result reflects the drop in the generation of formal vacancies and the high debt of families.
“This situation limits the income available for consumption and especially affects non-essential items, such as meals and drinks outside the home”, he explains.
According to the indicator, only two of the 24 states analyzed recorded growth in sales in September: Maranhão, with an increase of 2.6%, and Mato Grosso do Sul, with 1%.
On the other hand, the biggest drops were recorded in Roraima (11.5%), Pará (9.9%) and Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina (7.6%).
