On November 1, take some of this spice to the cemetery. The candles will burn for many days

All Saints’ Day falls, and immediately after it is All Saints’ Day. This is the time when Poland will be lit with thousands of flames, which are intended to remind us of the passing of time and to commemorate all those who have unfortunately passed away from this world.

If you visit the graves of your loved ones every year, you probably know how It’s frustrating when a freshly lit lantern goes out after a few hours. Fortunately, there is a simple solution that prolongs the burning of candles and does not require buying the most expensive refills. All you need is a pinch of popular spice.

The spice that will be useful in the cemetery is (necessarily fine). Thanks to it, you can extend the burning time of candles. All you need is a pinch of popular kitchen spice, which you need to sprinkle on the surface of slightly dissolved paraffin, around the wick, about 10 minutes after lighting the candle.

All you need is a quarter of a teaspoon of salt, which you need to sprinkle evenly over the surface of the liquid paraffin. The salt will act as a stabilizer, slowing down the combustion and strengthening the flame.

Don’t spread it, just wait. Salt will slow down the evaporation of paraffin and reduce the intensity of combustion, thanks to which the insert will last up to 10-20 percent longer. Remember that the salt trick in the cemetery does not work with oil or gel candles.

You can use salt in the cemetery not only to extend the durability of candles. Thanks to it, you will also repel ants, snails and other annoying insects that do not like its taste, smell or texture. However, be careful when using it, because (although it is an effective weed killer), it may destroy plants planted on/near the tombstone.

If you want, sprinkle a trace amount of it in spots, away from the plants and the stone, so as not to damage them (the spice can also damage the stone and lead to the formation of salt efflorescence).

It is also true that in combination with lemon juice or vinegar, salt creates an effective cleaning agent that removes rust, deposits and tarnishes, e.g. from metal parts of candles or frames.but use it carefully to avoid damaging the cemetery.
