With the result, Tricolor Paulista is stuck at 38 points, in eighth place, and is at risk of losing positions on the leaderboard until the end of the round.
In yet another lackluster performance, they showed no resistance and were defeated by , 3-0, away from home, this Sunday, in a game valid for the 29th round of the Brasileirão. The tricolor team conceded a lightning goal in the 35th second, from Alesson, and then saw the Law of Ex prevail with an extension from the penalty spot. Carlos Eduardo, also in charge at the lime mark, gave final numbers to the game. With the result, São Paulo is stuck at 38 points, in eighth place, and is at risk of losing positions on the leaderboard until the end of the round. It was the seventh defeat in the last eight matches. The next match will be against Bahia, at MorumBis, another direct rival in the fight for a place in the Copa Libertadores.
Mirassol, in turn, continues writing its fairy tale and remains firm as a contender for a direct place in the Libertadores group stage. The São Paulo team is in fourth place, with 52 points, and in the next round they face bottom team Sport, in Recife.
In addition to the series of absences due to injury, Hernán Crespo made significant changes in relation to the São Paulo team that lost to Grêmio in the previous round. The coach placed important names on the bench, such as Luciano, Alisson and Rodriguinho, and promoted the returns of Enzo Díaz, Pablo Maia and also Lucas Moura, who had not been a starter since March.
There was barely time to know if the lineup would have an effect and Mirassol opened the scoring with Alesson after 35 seconds. The attacker took advantage of the defense’s hesitation and headed in Reinaldo’s cross to open the scoring. This is the fastest goal in the Brasileirão.
Despite the unfavorable scenario right from the start, São Paulo tried to put its game plan into practice. The Tricolor team focused especially on plays on the sides, but with Tapia playing as the only reference man up front, the São Paulo team had difficulty taking advantage in the penalty area. The option was to try submissions from afar, but it was not effective.
Armed to play on counterattacks, Mirassol continued to face danger and were closer to extending the result than taking the draw. When Alan Franco brought down Carlos Eduardo in the penalty area, referee Matheus Delgado Candançan was called by VAR to review the move on the monitor and awarded a penalty. Reinaldo went for the penalty and hit hard to score the second for the team from the interior of São Paulo.
São Paulo came back slightly better after the break. The team began to take advantage in the plays on the sides, surrounding the area with danger, but were unable to turn the superiority into a goal. The adjustment in marking also made Mirassol miss many passes and, thus, goalkeeper Rafael became less required.
When the match lost its technical quality and emotion, VAR came into action again. Matheus Candançan was called to the monitor to evaluate a handball by Lucas inside the tricolor area and, after five minutes of checking, he signaled the penalty. Carlos Eduardo took the penalty and scored the third, at 23.
It was only after the third goal that Crespo turned to the bench. Without many options due to the high number of players in the medical department, the coach was unable to find solutions to change the game and saw the team accept defeat. Mirassol also put their foot on the brake and managed the result until the final whistle.
