A B3 brought together business leaders and references from the private social investment sector to “ring the bell” of the São Paulo Stock Exchange. The action was carried out this Monday (20) to celebrate National Philanthropy Day, in partnership with Comunitas and GIFE (Group of Institutes, Foundations and Companies).

“Celebrating National Philanthropy Day with a Bell Ring at B3, alongside industry executives, reinforces the role of private social investment in building a fairer Brazil”, says Fabiana Prianti, head of B3 Social, the philanthropy arm of the Exchange.

The guests discussed philanthropy as a driver of transformation and development in Brazil. The idea was to highlight how social investment can complement the State, accelerate solutions and create strategies to tackle inequalities in Brazil.

For Gilson Finkelsztain, CEO of B3, philanthropy “has room to grow” in Brazil. Patrícia Loyola, director of management and social investment at Comunitas, agrees and says that social investments can bear fruit not only for the community, but also for the organizations that invest in the sector.

“It is worth highlighting the benefit of this practice for the organizations themselves. We have identified several opportunities in our network to generate shared value, as companies’ social activities have the potential to reach spaces that business cannot reach, and can be a powerful interface with communities”, he states.

Camila Valverde from the Accelor Mital Foundation highlighted the importance of philanthropy in organizations.

“Social investment is fundamental to responsible business conduct. It boosts development, helps the well-being of the community you helped and contributes to reducing inequalities”, highlighted the executive.

Alexandre Thiollier, CEO of BRK, listed points of attention for entrepreneurs who are starting social investments in their businesses.

“Keep ideas simple and close to the heart of the company and engage people. Leadership has to be very involved to show that this is part of the mission and when senior management manages to send this message strongly, it mobilizes”, pointed out Thiollier.

The outlook is also positive for individual donations. According to the Brazil 2024 Donation Survey, carried out by IDIS (Institute for the Development of Social Investment) in partnership with the Ipsos Institute, individual donations generated R$24.3 billion in the country — the largest volume ever recorded since the beginning of the historical series.
