The TJ-SP (Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo) granted provisional freedom to the woman arrested on Sunday (19) on suspicion of racial insult in a sub-12 Paulista Championship match between Manthiqueira and Corinthians.
The 41-year-old woman was arrested in the act for allegedly making racist insults against a player under 18 in a game at the Estádio Municipal Professor Dario Rodrigues Leite, in Guaratinguetá.
The Military Police were called. The woman was identified and arrested, before being taken to the Lorena public jail.
According to the TJ, after a custody hearing on Monday (20), various precautionary measures were imposed on the prison. “In the investigative phase, access to the documents in the file is restricted to the parties and lawyers”, informed the court.
Founder of Manthiqueira, Dado de Oliveira stated that the boy targeted by the offenses is fine and will undergo psychological counseling at the club. “I hugged him and talked to him after the episode. He’s a boy who has a good head and is putting up with all of this,” Oliveira told Sheet.
He added that the young man’s parents expressed their desire to protect him at this time and preferred not to comment on the case.
Present at the stadium on Sunday, the director stated that the fans on both sides were “inflamed” during the match, valid for the quarter-finals. At the end of the game, as they left the stadium, they had to be contained by the police to avoid further problems. “Policing was very effective and contained the people who were most excited.”
Oliveira also said that cases of parents who get excessively excited are quite common in youth games. The director stated that the club seeks to carry out educational work to raise awareness with the players’ parents, highlighting the importance of supporting their children in the stands, but without directing any type of offense towards the players or the opponent’s fans.
“The world has changed. We don’t need to bully, utter racist insults to impose ourselves”, stated Oliveira. “At Manthiqueira, we defend fair play and encourage our players not to do to others what they wouldn’t want done to them.”
The game’s referee, Guilherme Drbochlaw, reported in the summary that he activated the anti-racism protocol after the Manthiqueira athlete sat down on the pitch and, “in tears”, informed the refereeing team of the insult of the visiting team’s fans. “Black, son of a bitch, without a family, he’s going to get screwed,” the fan reportedly said, as reported by the referee in the summary, based on the athlete’s complaint.
“According to the incident report, during the game, one of the children informed the referee that he was being subjected to racial insults from a woman in the stands. The act was confirmed by one of the ball boys at the match. The victim’s mother called the police who were providing security for the event. The parties were taken to the Guaratinguetá Police Station, where the suspect gave a statement and was arrested in the act. The woman She was taken to the Lorena Public Prison, where she remained at the disposal of the courts”, informed the SSP (Public Security Secretariat), in a note.
“After what happened, the aforementioned athlete did not continue in the match due to his emotional state”, informed Drbochlaw in the summary.
From the end of August to the beginning of September, the FPF (São Paulo Football Federation) even banned the presence of the public during two rounds of the Paulista under-11.
The measure, of an educational nature, was taken due to the inappropriate behavior of the fans in multiple games. The reported cases included insults against boys — with racial insults and homophobia —, fights and threats.
Both the federation, Manthiquera and Corinthians issued statements to condemn racism and the fans’ stance.
