SP government promises to expand medicine production – 10/22/2025 – Panel

With plans to extinguish the state’s pharmaceutical laboratory, Furp, and transfer it to the Butantan Institute, the management (Republicans) promises to expand the production capacity of .

The proposal has been debated in Alesp (Legislative Assembly of ).

Furp employees and deputies opposing the governor oppose the change.

The government cites, as an example, that the Furp unit in Guarulhos, which produces 400 million units of medicine per year, could reach 3 billion if managed by Butantan. The one in Américo Brasiliense, which is deactivated, will also be able to manufacture the same quantity.

In addition to the increase in productivity, the government and institute defend the change as a possibility of developing a research and development area to serve the SUS and other markets in America and Africa.

Faced with employees’ fears, the State Health Secretary, Eleuses Paiva, said, in a hearing at Alesp, that instead of dismissal, the government intends to hire more professionals.

“Employees will not be fired. We want the Américo Brasiliense factory to function and return to its maximum load. With the number of employees we have today, this will not be possible, so in reality more and more solid jobs will be hired”, he stated.
