How battery production could become cleaner for the energy transition

Lithium-ion batteries are at the center of the energy transition. They can be found, among other things, in our cell phones, laptops, e-cars, e-bikes as well as in solar and wind systems. Compared to traditional batteries, lithium-ion batteries charge faster, last longer and have a higher power density. But while we drive electric cars and argue about locations for wind turbines, massive greenhouse gas emissions are being created for our energy transition in other regions of the world.
