(UOL/FOLHAPRESS) – A survey by Embratur, in partnership with Visa and the Ipsos Institute, revealed who are the foreigners who visit Brazil the most and how much each nationality usually spends during their stay.
The research analyzed average expenses, length of stay, most visited regions and travel motivations. The study “International Tourism in Brazil: the behavior of five markets” interviewed 8 thousand tourists from Argentina, Chile, the United States, Portugal and Uruguay, responsible for almost 60% of the international flow in 2025.
Tourists from the USA lead the expenditure ranking, with an average daily expenditure of US$308.21 (around R$1,660 at current prices), almost triple the amount spent by Uruguayans (US$114.73/R$617.99). Portugal appears in second place, followed by Chile and Argentina.

TRAVEL PROFILES
The survey shows that each group has different behaviors. North Americans prefer the Northeast, especially Bahia, and seek experiences linked to culture, nature and gastronomy, with high standard accommodation and restaurants.
The Portuguese stay longer, 17 nights on average, and usually travel to visit family, in addition to enjoying Brazilian culture and cuisine.
Argentines and Uruguayans, who arrive mainly by land, concentrate their trips in the South and Southeast, as a family or couple, and prefer economical options, using their own car and simple meals.
Chileans, in turn, balance cost and comfort, traveling alone or as a couple, generally to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
