Voting locations, times and candidates: everything you need to know about the Benfica elections

On Saturday, theclub members will elect the Board of the General Assembly, the Supervisory Board, the Remuneration Committee e, Of course, the club management. There are six candidates for the ‘red’ presidency.

This Saturday, more than 160,000 Benfica members choose the club’s next president. There are six candidates and, if none get 50% of the vote, there will be a second round on November 8th.

Benfica goes to elections this Saturday, October 25th, the day of the game against Arouca at Estádio da Luz.

The polls close in the middle of the match and, therefore, Benfica recommends to everyone members who exercise their right to vote before the opening whistle.

It is possible to vote from 8:30 am, in Luz, and in more than 100 polling stations located in Casas do Benfica from North to South and even outside the country, in branches of:

The candidates

The members will elect the Board of the General Assembly, the Supervisory Board, the Remuneration Committee e, Of course, the club management.

There are six presidential candidates: List A canditata-se only to the Board of the General Assembly and, therefore, for president, the first name on the ballot is the of Martin Mayer and the B List.

Next are João Manteigas, Cristóvão Carvalho, Luís Filipe Vieira, João Noronha Lopes and Rui Costa.

Weight of votes is not the same for everyone

If no list obtains more than 50% of the votes, there will be a 2nd round, on November 8, in which only the two most voted lists compete.

Members of legal age can vote com, at least one year of membership e dues paid until August.

But not all members have the same “electoral” weight. Similar to what happens in other clubs, at Benfica, members with more years of membership have more votes.

  • One to five years: three votes
  • Five to 10 years: 10 votes
  • Ten to 25 years: 20 Votes
  • Over 25 years old: 50 Votes

There is no electronic voting, but it is possible to vote at any polling station. BTo do this, you must present your membership card and identification document.
