On November 1 and 2, many people will go to the graves of their loved onesoften located in various cemeteries – smaller and larger. This is a tradition intended to commemorate those who are no longer with us, but when going to a large necropolis, especially for the first time, you may have trouble finding the burial place. How to find the right place? Grave finders will be helpful.
According to the survey results collected by the website of the Republic of Poland, in 2020 there were 12,269 cemeteries in Poland, the total area of which exceeded 16,000. ha. Some necropolises in Poland have an area exceeding 100 ha, and it is difficult to find a proper grave in such an area, for example the Northern Municipal Cemetery in Warsaw, which covers an area of 143 ha. The largest necropolis is the Central Cemetery in Szczecin with an area of 173 ha.
For this reason, many websites and applications have been created to make it easier to find a grave – they often cover larger necropolises (and others), where looking for the right place without any clues could take up to a few hours.

You can choose from both websites and applications to download to your phone. They are easy to use and most often require entering data such as: name, surname, voivodeship and city. Sometimes the date of death is also needed. When looking for graves of the deceased, you can use websites such as:
- WebCmentarz — this is the largest database, including over 15 million burial places.
- Grobonet.com — it is a nationwide database (currently updated) that can be used to find almost 7 million dead people.
- Mogły.pl — includes over 2 million buried in cemeteries in various voivodeships.
- eCemeteries — contains entries about over 1.3 million people from all over Poland.
- KsiegaZmarlych24.pl — it is a search engine with data from over 1.6 million people.
- Findagrave.com — it is the world’s largest search engine with over 250 million results, you will also find cemeteries from Poland there.
Larger cemeteries, including: in Warsaw or Krakow have grave search engines on their own websites. In addition, among others Koszalin has a phone application that makes it easier to find a grave.
