Four people died in the early hours of Monday (27) among one in Pedreira, North Zone of Rio. Among the victims are two residents and two suspects, according to information from the Military Police.
Marli Macedo dos Santos, 60 years old, during the escape of criminals from the CV (Red Command), who were trying to take over areas controlled by the TCP (Third Pure Command) from the Chapadão Complex. The elderly woman was taken hostage and, despite being released under negotiation by the PM, did not survive his injuries and died no Hospital Municipal Albert Schweitzer.
Another resident, Elison Nascimento Vasconcelos, 33 years old, was also hit in the shooting. According to family members, he was a delivery man e had come out of a pagoda when the shooting started. He was taken to Francisco da Silva Teles Hospital, but did not survive.
The Military Police reported that five suspects were arrested e two killed during the operation. They were seized seven rifles e six stolen vehicles recovered. During the clashes, residents and traders needed to take shelter.
Amid the tension, the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Costa Barros reopened this Monday (27) after almost a month of closure. The unit had been invaded by criminals in September, when two patients were attacked. The PM announced that it will maintain occupation of the region indefinitely and monitors public bodies to ensure the functioning of health services.

Governor Cláudio Castro highlighted the need for stricter penalties for faction members.
“As long as we do not have stricter legislation to punish these criminals, the population of the State of Rio de Janeiro will be in their sights. They take advantage of loopholes in the law to carry war weapons and commit crimes that terrorize the population and cost lives”, he stated.
