The vice-president said, this Monday morning (27), that he regretted the stance of the governor of , (Republicans) and (-SP) in stating that the two defend the tariffs imposed by .
He said that the state of São Paulo is one of the main ones affected by the tariff and, therefore, “it would not be possible to applaud the president of the US at a time like this”, in an interview with the ICL portal.
“(São Paulo) This is where the industry is most strongly affected by tariffs, because it is to the United States that we export the most added value, which is more difficult for you to replace in other countries,” he said.
The acting president also said that Brazil is an expensive country, with a tax burden of 33.5% of GDP, while China is 22%, India is 20% and Mexico is 17% and that it is not easy to compete, especially with Asian countries.
“It’s regrettable that you defend something that is unfair. It doesn’t make any sense. They have a surplus in the services balance, in the trade balance, they have zero tariffs for almost 78% of the products they export. There is no justification and this cannot be used except as a regulatory policy”, he declared.
Regarding Eduardo, he did not mention the name of the former president’s son (PL), but he regretted that the National Congress “had a parliamentarian paid with public money, outside the country, working against employment in Brazil, companies in Brazil, and trying to harm the Brazilian economy”.
The vice president also said that there is no set date for the next meeting on tariffs that should take place in Washington between US negotiators, but that the government is optimistic about a solution.
