Can dedicated study places alleviate the shortage of statutory health insurance physicians?

The Austrian healthcare system suffers from a seemingly insurmountable contradiction: although the total number of doctors in the country has increased significantly over the past 20 years, many health insurance positions remain unfilled. The stagnating and, in some regions, declining number of statutory health insurance physicians is not keeping pace with the growing and aging population. At the same time, the number of elective doctors – and their fees – is increasing.
