STF closes the coup plot process against Cid – 10/28/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The (Federal Supreme Court) closed this Tuesday (28) the case against the lieutenant colonel.

The soldier was the only one of those convicted in the central nucleus of the attempted coup d’état and the decision of the First Panel of the Supreme Court. Now, the minister will determine the start of the execution of the sentence.

There is a discussion about what Mauro Cid’s situation will be. The military’s defense understands that he has already served more than two years of his sentence, including the time he was held in preventive detention and the period in which he served precautionary measures.

There is a thesis in the Supreme Court, however, which understands that precautionary measures, such as wearing an ankle bracelet and prohibition of leaving your home on weekends, should not be counted in the remission of the sentence.

A compromise could be the inclusion, in the calculation of the penalty reduction, of the period in which Cid was prevented from leaving home. Restrictions were imposed on evenings, from 6pm to 6am, and on weekends.

Mauro Cid was sentenced to two years of open prison for participating in the central core of the coup plot.

Cid’s sentence is the lowest among all those convicted of the coup plot because of the benefit agreed between the military and the Federal Police in the award-winning collaboration agreement.
