The Rio de Janeiro Police mega-operation in Complexo do Alemão, which took place this Tuesday (28), left 64 dead. They are 60 criminals, two civil police officers and two military police officers from BOPE among the victims. Until the last update, 81 people had already been arrested.
According to the State Secretariat of Military Police, the dead police officers were identified as Cleiton Serafim Gonçalves and Heber Carvalho da Fonseca, both assigned to the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE).
The soldiers were injured during the , which took place this Tuesday (28) in . The police officers were rescued and taken to Getúlio Vargas Hospital, but they did not survive their injuries.
Sergeant Serafim was 42 years old and joined the Corporation in 2008. He leaves behind a wife and a daughter. Sergeant Heber was 39 years old and joined the Corporation in 2011. He leaves behind a wife, two children and a stepson.
So far, there is no confirmation on the time and place of the soldiers’ burial.
The operation
The action is part of a (Red Command) to arrest criminal leaders who operate in Rio and other states.
The police are trying to carry out 100 arrest warrants against CV members — among the targets, 30 are from other states, with emphasis on members of the faction in Pará, who are believed to be hiding in these regions.
Three residents who were victims of stray bullets were taken to Hospital Getúlio Vargas. Among them, a woman was grazed while at the gym and has already been discharged.
A Bope police officer was shot in the leg during a raid in the forested area of Complexo do Alemão. According to the unit’s command, the agent was injured during an exchange of gunfire and was taken to the Corporation’s Central Hospital in the Estácio neighborhood. He is not at risk of death.
Among those arrested in the action is a suspect identified as a financial operator for Edgar Alves de Andrade, known as “Doca” or “Urso”, one of the heads of Comando Vermelho.
The police also seized ten rifles, a pistol, three cell phones and nine motorcycles.
