President of the STF, Minister Edson Fachin, states that the CNJ will map the criminal organizations operating in the country.

The president of the Federal Supreme Court () and the National Council of Justice (CNJ), minister, said this Friday (31) that the council will map the criminal organizations operating in the country. Earlier, Fachin participated in the installation of police stations to combat violence against women in Bauru, in the interior of .

Amid the repercussions of the more than 120 deaths that occurred during Operation Containment, launched by the police to combat criminals linked to the Red Command (CV), Fachin said that mapping will help in the development of strategies to repress organized crime.

“The Judiciary is aware of this and is acting fundamentally on two fronts. The first of them is within the scope of the National Council of Justice. We are developing and will soon have a map of criminal organizations in Brazil, where they come from, where they are, what are their main points of interest so that, based on data and evidence, the entire Justice system, including, in particular, the police and the Federal Police, can have better policies to combat criminal organizations”, he stated.

Human Rights

The minister also highlighted that the Supreme Court argues that the protection of human rights must be treated as a public security measure. “Where there is a criminal organization, there is a connection, which begins within penitentiary establishments. It is this link that needs to be severed”, he added.

ADPF of Favelas

The developments of Operation Containment are monitored in the Court through the process known as ADPF das Favelas, an action in which the STF has already determined measures to combat police lethality in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

On Wednesday (29), the minister asked the governor of , , to provide clarifications on the operation. Moraes also scheduled a hearing for next Monday (3), in Rio de Janeiro, to address the issue.
