During a short visit to Warsaw, an elderly woman from Ukraine became the victim of a dishonest taxi driver. She paid up to 720 zlotys (almost 170 euros) for the approximately 15-minute ride (6.5 km). The case caused a wave of indignation in Poland, especially on social networks. “Out of shame for the Pole, who behaved like a bandit without honor and conscience, I returned part of the money to her,” wrote diplomat Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart, who drew attention to the incident on .
The Ukrainian arrived in Warsaw for only a few hours while waiting for her flight. She didn’t know the city, she didn’t have the local currency with her, and she couldn’t even find an ATM or exchange office at the station. She was offered help by friends who invited her to their house so she wouldn’t have to wait in the cold. While looking for a taxi, she was approached by a man who introduced himself as a driver and assured her that she could pay by card. The woman agreed – and that’s when her unpleasant experience began, reports the website.
According to diplomat Sufin-Jacquemart, the drive lasted about 15 minutes and led through the territory of the city. Nevertheless, the driver charged the fare as for a night drive outside the city. As pointed out by Iwona Wyszogrodzka, who published the story on social networks, the driver manipulated both the tariff and the receipt.
The paragon was non-fiscal, that is, it did not come from the official treasury, and the resulting amount was determined by “agreement” – well above the real rates. Normally, she should pay a maximum of 27 euros for such a ride.
In the end, the elderly woman could not file a report with the police because she was flying out of the country that evening, but the whole situation was shocking to her. The case has once again opened a debate about the unfair practices of some Warsaw taxi drivers and the need for stricter controls by the authorities. You can find PHOTO receipts in the gallery!
