Three bodies handed over to Israel, sent by the Red Cross, do not belong to any of the hostages captured by Hamas

The three bodies delivered on Friday (31st), coming from and sent by the Red Cross, do not belong to any of the hostages captured on October 7, 2023, the Israeli army said this Saturday (1st). A military source had already indicated on Friday night, at the time of the handover, that he did not believe the bodies were those of the hostages.

Terrorist group Hamas has already returned the remains of 17 of the 28 deceased hostages it agreed to hand over as part of a US-brokered ceasefire agreement. The 17 bodies returned include those of 15 Israelis, one Thai and one Nepali.

Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, for every Israeli freed, Israel returned 15 bodies of Palestinians killed during the war, bringing the total to 225.

Following the implementation of the truce, Hamas released the last 20 surviving hostages held captive in Gaza on October 13 and began the process of returning the bodies of the deceased hostages. However, successive delays in the delivery of bodies angered the Israeli government, which accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement.

The hostages’ families also demanded stronger measures to force the Palestinian group to comply with the agreement. Ten bodies of hostages kidnapped on October 7 remain in Gaza.

Despite the ceasefire coming into effect on October 10, Israel bombed Gaza twice in retaliation for the shooting that killed three of its soldiers.

The October 19 airstrikes killed at least 45 people in Gaza, according to Palestinian sources. Tuesday’s bombings left 104 people dead, according to the same sources. Hamas, which denies firing at Israeli soldiers, accused Israel of violating the ceasefire.
