The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Friday, 31, that he would “love to eliminate” an additional 10% tariff on Chinese products, if Beijing demonstrates progress in the fight against fentanyl. “I put in a 20% penalty and had a great conversation about it with President Xi Jinping yesterday (Thursday 30). I would like to take the other 10% back as soon as we see results,” Trump told reporters aboard the presidential plane.
The American stated that the trade agreement with China “will be wonderful and lasting”. Trump reinforced that the understanding with the Asian country includes Chinese purchases “at levels that our farmers have never seen before”, estimated at around 25 million tons of soybeans per year for three years and other products. “I suggest they buy bigger tractors and more land,” he said.
Trump also praised meetings with the leaders of Japan and South Korea, saying they were all “incredible” and that trillions of dollars are “coming back to the country.”
