There are millions of Brazilians, from favela residents to middle-class neighborhoods, forced to pay gangs for food, water, electricity, internet… If they don’t do so, they risk being killed or tortured.

A study by the Brazilian Internal Security Forum reveals that 28.5 million Brazilians live under the control of gangs.

The report, cited by Rádio, points out that the phenomenon is growing, highlighting that the problem also affects middle class neighborhoods.

Anyone who does not purchase basic services from suppliers appointed by the gangs may even end up dying or being tortured by a criminal organization.

Then, there are clandestine cemeteries to hide the bodies, where the police do not enter.

According to the study, currently, 19% of Brazilians say they live in territories dominated by criminal factions, such as First Capital Command (PCC) or the Red Command (CV).

In these areas, there is a climate of violence and oppression, in which, at the end of the month, little is left for the inhabitants, because the gangs collect everything

“This translates into the obligation of the population to purchase food, goods, from a certain supplier, indicated by these criminal groups. They force the population to contract internet services or from their companies, which are fronts, or clandestine services that they offer”, he explained to Renascença radio, Leonardo Silvawho was part of the investigation.
