It is a trademark of many authoritarian leaders: They like to describe political opponents as extremists, denigrate them as fools or even as criminals. So it’s no wonder that Trump also describes New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who is far left by American standards, as a “communist crazy.”
