In many Polish homes, On November 11, goose is traditionally prepared. This is related to the day of Saint Martin of Tours, celebrated on the same date. According to legend, it was the geese that betrayed Saint’s hiding place with their honking. Martin when he went into hiding, not wanting to take up the office of bishop. That’s why eating them on this day happened tradition.
But it turns out that On November 11, goose is not eaten for dinner everywhere. For various reasons, this dish is replaced with other specialties. This includes, among others, baked chickenwhich turns out to be a perfect proposition for a gala dinner on November 11.

Chicken baked in peppers This is an extremely simple, filling and warming dish that will surely be enjoyed by the family invited to a feast on November 11. To prepare this dish you will need the following ingredients:
- 500 g chicken legs;
- 1 red pepper;
- 1 yellow pepper;
- 1 green pepper;
- 1 onion;
- 1 can of chopped tomatoes;
- 1 teaspoon of ground sweet pepper;
- 1 teaspoon of ground smoked paprika;
- 1 teaspoon of ground hot pepper (can be omitted if you don’t like it spicy);
- 1 teaspoon of thyme;
- 1 teaspoon of marjoram;
- 3 tablespoons of oil;
- salt and pepper.
Importantly, if we expect a larger number of guests, it is worth using double or even three times the above ingredients.
Preparation method:
- First, we start washing and drying the thighs. Then salt and pepper them on all sides and put them in a large bowl. In a separate vessel, combine the oil and spices. Then pour the marinade over the chicken and mix thoroughly. Set aside in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
- In the meantime, wash and cut the peppers into small pieces. Cut the onion into cubes. Pour the ingredients into a bowl, add chopped tomatoes and season with salt and pepper.
- Place the spiced chicken in an ovenproof dish. Then pour the whole thing with the previously prepared peppers, tomatoes and onions. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius.
- Bake the chicken in an uncovered ovenproof dish for about 20 minutes. After this time, cover them with a lid and bake for another 40 minutes – this time at 180 degrees Celsius. After 40 minutes the chicken will be ready.
Chicken we can optionally bake for another approx 10-15 minutes at temperature 200 degrees Celsius – without lid. Then the crust will be tighter crispy.
Chicken in peppers it’s a perfect dish that tastes even better with the right ones additions. It is best served with potatoes (traditional with water or in the form of puree). Nothing stops you from serving this meal with fresh breadand even groats the rice.
Let’s remember to take care of ourselves as well vegetable addition. We can bet on pig iron (for example from celery, white cabbage or carrot), salad or boiled vegetables – cauliflower, broccoli or peas with carrots.
