His performance in the series, on Prime Video, has resonated with the public and critics. The plot revisits the case that resulted in Suzane’s conviction for the murder of her parents, in 2002, and marks a change in the actress’s career, who takes on a role with a strong dramatic charge in a work based on real events. And that was one of the topics of the Ministry of Gossip.

In the program, columnist Lucas Pasin, from Metropolisescommented on Marina’s performance and highlighted the importance of the production in expanding the actress’ repertoire.
“We can see actresses like , who has a long history with Globo, showing a role that challenged her. And that leaves this place of cliché that soap operas place too much on Marina. This serves as a lesson for TV Globo, and for all platforms, to try to take these actors out of these clichés that we are already a little tired of seeing”, he stated.

Pasin also highlighted that the actress has taken advantage of her professional freedom to seek new challenges outside of the broadcaster where she built much of her career.
“She has said some no’s to TV Globo so she can do the streaming. She can say those no’s, she has this freedom, because she no longer has that fixed contract. She can do this, make choices that can be strange to the public. We are very used to seeing Marina Ruy Barbosa in these preppy roles or that kind of thing that we don’t really want to see from Marina.”
And he added: “When we have the opportunity to see Marina acting in something that causes strangeness, the feeling is: ‘wow, what a good actress!’. Not that we didn’t know that she is a good actress. But it seems that this is even more surprising when we can see Marina in this role as Suzane.”
For Lucas Pasin, the actress’ good moment also reflects the advancement of productions beyond open TV:
“It’s good that we don’t depend on Globo for good productions. It’s been a while since we’ve been depending so much on them. And, increasingly, less so. Streaming has created good productions with those global ones that we’re already used to. Which is the case with Marina Ruy Barbosa. I’m happy that Marina is making good choices for her.”
