The main conclusion of the election day in USA –where the disputes were settled governors of the states and the NY mayor’s officeamong other issues – has been the setback to trump. The democrat victory at key points it is a Notice to the Republicans ahead of the elections that will be held next midterm next year and even at 2028 presidential elections. Below, the keys to a historic day with a Muslim, Zohran Mamdani, in charge of the city of New York.

In Virginiatraditionally a decisive state in it later year at presidential electionslos Democrats won all state races, and Abigail Spanbergera moderate 46 years oldwill be the first female governor of Virginia. In the race for lieutenant governor, Democrat Ghazala Hashmi has become the first Muslim candidate elected nationwide. Trump repeatedly rejected the republican candidate to governor Winsome Earle-Sears, 61which would have been the first black woman elected governor in any state. The president declined to formally endorse her and avoided mentioning her name at his televised election-eve rally for Virginia candidates.

In New Jerseythe Democratic candidate for governor, Mikie Sherrill, won by almost the same margin, easily defeating a strong Republican candidate he attacked for supporting Trump.

In New Yorkhe Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor after a surprise campaign that also sparked debate in it breast of one’s own democratic party. He snatched the Democratic nomination from former Governor Andrew M. Cuomowho ran as an independent and received last-minute support from Trump. Mamdani, a Muslim, has waged an energetic campaign based on social networks to attract the young vote.

The stake was elevated. The New York City Board of Elections reported that they had been issued two million votes in the New York mayoral elections with 15 minutes left before the polls closed. The first time since 1969 – according to the board – that two million New Yorkers voted in a local elections.

“And so it begins” (“This is how it begins”, “Everything begins here”) has been the expression used by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to react to the victory of Zohran Mamdani -democrat and Muslim- as mayor of New York. It is an expression loaded with drama that is usually used to announce the beginning of something important, usually with a tone warning or veiled threat. The phrase is famous for its use in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ -‘The Lord of the Rings’-, when King Théoden heads to the battle of Helm’s Deep, hence its apocalyptic connotations that Trump so likes to exploit. Trump described Mamdani as “lunatic communist”.

Trump he had campaigned for Republican gubernatorial candidates in both Virginia and New Jersey. After the defeat in the two states, the president published on his social network that it was largely due to the fact that “Trump was not on the ballot” and to partial government shutdown (‘shutdown’).
