Clear distances from the trend in favor of increasing taxation, which dominates within the French National Assembly, especially in the spaces of the extreme right and the left, were received by its president.
“You don’t make a country happier by preventing its champions from conquering new markets,” said the French head of state during his intervention at a Maritime Economy Conference held in the La Rochelle region.
“You know this here, you who have champions in navigation, champions in sailing, champions in freight.
Every time we tried to tell France (…) that we have to back down and no longer want the high seas, we were wrong,” the French president said in his speech, implicitly but not clearly emphasizing the fact that with the votes of the left-wing and far-right National Alarm parties, the French National Assembly last week passed several amendments that increase taxes on multinational companies.
