One fell, this Tuesday (4/11), near Muhammad Ali Airport, in Kentucky, in the United States. The accident happened shortly after takeoff, at around 5:20 pm local time. Some witnesses reported a fire in the aircraft’s turbine, which collided with the ground and hit vehicles and properties in the region.
The flight, identified as , was destined for Honolulu, Hawaii, and was carrying three crew members, as well as 280,000 gallons of fuel, which intensified the fire in the region. Andy Beshear, governor of the state, confirmed at least three deaths, but said it was not possible to determine whether they were the crew, in addition to 11 injured.

The manager believes that both numbers should grow: “Anyone who saw the images, the videos, knows how violent this drop was”. The mayor of Louisville, Craig Greenberg, reported that the airport is closed and asked that city residents avoid approaching a perimeter of 7.5 km from the accident site.
The model involved in the accident is a McDonnel Douglas MD-11, originally manufactured by and later by . The plane in question was built in 1991 and was initially used to transport passengers. In 2006, it was converted to freighter use, by UPS, which is one of the largest logistics companies in the world.
Muhammad Ali Airport is home to UPS Worldport, the company’s main distribution center.
