US tests intercontinental ballistic missile to ensure nuclear readiness

The United States carried out a test with a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile. The unarmed missile traveled around 7 thousand kilometers.

This Wednesday, the United States carried out a test with an intercontinental ballistic missile from the Vandenberg Space Base, in California, with the aim of testing the readiness and effectiveness of the Minuteman III.

The missile, without payload, traveled around 7 thousand kilometers, to the Marshall Islands, where nuclear testing facilities are located. According to Air Force Global Strike Command, the launch of the Minuteman III is part of a series of routine tests and is not related to recent announcements.

“O Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) conducted a test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile from Vandenberg Space Base in California on November 5, 2025. This test, designated GT 254, evaluated the ongoing reliability, operational readiness and accuracy of the ICBM system, a pillar of the United States’ national defense.”

The information appears in a statement released by the unit of United States Air Force responsible for strategic nuclear forces, including intercontinental ballistic missiles and long-range nuclear-capable bombers.

The exercise, called GT 254, served to confirm that the system remains “operational and accurate”, at a time when the United States is preparing to transition to a new missile, the Sentinel, which will replace the Minuteman III.

“The GT 254 is more than a simple launch. It is a verification that this system continues to fulfill its mission safely and reliably”, he stated Karrie Wray, lieutenant colonel of the US Air Force, cited in the statement.
