When heart and psyche get out of sync


Many of those affected constantly measure their pulse and are in a state of alarm. An abnormal heart rhythm can trigger panic. What is subjectively felt to have a bad effect on the heart is avoided – exercise, social interaction or medication that should actually help: For people who suffer from heart anxiety, i.e. are constantly afraid that a heart attack or another serious cardiac event will occur, everyday life can become torture. Confidence in your own body is lost. At the same time, the fear itself can lead to symptoms such as heart palpitations – a vicious circle arises. The stress can develop into a serious mental illness. Those affected with severe disease are often unable to work and socially isolated.
