The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, urged countries on Thursday to demonstrate leadership in the fight against climate change and to free themselves from dependence on fossil fuels, in a speech at the opening of a leaders’ summit in Brazil.
“We can choose to lead or be led to ruin,” he said at the summit, which takes place days before the formal start of COP30 negotiations in the city of Belém.
