The São Paulo Grand Prix, decisive in the dispute for the season’s title, will have Lando Norris, from McLaren, on pole. The race takes place this Sunday (9), at 2pm (Brasília time).
Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes, will start in second position. Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari, and Oscar Piastri, from McLaren, in third and fourth respectively, complete the second row.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen did not qualify well and was eliminated in Q1. The four-time world champion complained about the car’s lack of grip and difficulties in the first corner. The Dutchman will start in 16th position. “We’ll have to analyze it, we don’t know what happened. The weekend has been very bad for us,” he said.
Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari driver, will be in the seventh row. The Briton confirmed a difficult time in his first year at the Italian team.
Gabriel Bortoleto will start in last place, directly from the pit box, in his debut at Interlagos. On the last lap of the sprint race, this Saturday (8), in the morning, the Brazilian lost control of his car on the damp track and crashed at the end of the main straight.
The Sauber driver did not participate in Q1, as his car – with a new chassis – was not ready in time. After the accident, Bortoleto was taken to the Interlagos medical center and released a few minutes later.
In the short race, Norris increased his lead in the F1 World Championship by winning the sprint. The Mclaren driver scored eight points and now has a total of 365. Piastri, a teammate, left the race before the seventh lap and remains with 356. Verstappen follows with 321.
The championship continues with stages in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, completing the 24 stages scheduled in this year’s F1 calendar.
