The US logistics company UPS has grounded its entire McDonnell Douglas MD-11 fleet after a cargo plane crashed with at least 13 deaths. A UPS spokesman said on Friday (local time) that the decision was made “out of great caution and in the interest of safety” to temporarily ground the MD-11 fleet, which still consists of 27 machines. A little later, the rival company FedEx joined in the flight ban for the aircraft type. FedEx previously operated 28 MD-11s.
