The recently launched Grupo Boticário Hair Science and Research Center, located in São José dos Pinhais (PR), concentrates efforts to study in depth hair and scalp, focusing on scientific innovation and sustainability.

Among the laboratory’s priorities are the development of proprietary technologies, the creation of new active ingredients and the investigation of the hair microbiome, aiming for personalized and environmentally responsible solutions.

One of the highlights of the research is the microalgae discovered in the fresh waters of the Brazilian Cerrado. This natural organism has compounds capable of protecting skin color by up to 95% and increasing its resistance by 33%.

Using microalgae, scientists created the active BioRadianceproduced by biotechnological route in controlled bioreactors. This method reduces the need for massive extraction from nature, ensuring greater sustainability and standardization of the ingredient.

The technology used allows microalgae to be cultivated ethically, following natural and cosmetic principles.

About the initiative, Marcela De Masi, Executive Director of Branding and Communication at Grupo Boticáriostates: “The creation of the Hair Science and Research Center is a milestone for the Group and for the beauty market. We are building a solid scientific basis to deepen knowledge about hair care.”

She adds, highlighting the importance of science in innovation: “We believe that continuing to invest in hair science is what allows us to transform knowledge into an effective market differentiator, going beyond product development and generating proprietary science to create more effective, safe and targeted solutions. It also allows us to plan a continuous innovation pipeline, developing projects that meet consumer demands.”

The center operates on four main fronts: hair diversity, scalp health, personalization through advanced technology and sustainability. Furthermore, it promotes education and dissemination of scientific knowledge, training professionals and strengthening the academic and industrial community.

Among the innovative projects are 3D Skin with Folliclebioprinted technology that allows you to test hair products ethically and accurately, and the mapping the microbiota of the Brazilian scalpcarried out in partnership with the SENAI Institute for Innovation in Embedded Systems.

Research with bioinformatics and genetic sequencing is also underway, aiming to understand hair health over time and allow for increasingly precise recommendations.
