President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sent a letter inviting the new president of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz Pereira, to visit Brazil and discuss new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
The invitation was confirmed by the Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, who participated this Saturday (8) in the inauguration of the Bolivian leader.
Alckmin highlighted the history of good relations between the two countries and stated that the possible meeting between Lula and Paz should focus on expanding bilateral partnerships.
“Bolivia has the longest border with Brazil, more than 3 thousand kilometers, and we want to strengthen this partnership. In the agricultural area, there is a huge possibility. Brazil buys fertilizers. We can advance on the issue of energy, gas, fertilizers, agribusiness, industry and infrastructure”, said the vice president in an interview with journalists.
Asked about the presence of Brazilian criminal organizations in Bolivia and the fight against transnational crime, Alckmin said that the fight must be done jointly.
“This work needs to be carried out by several countries, it has to be a joint effort and identify the leaders of criminal organizations, arrest them in a maximum security penitentiary and stop, cut off the flow of money”, he stated.
(8), ending a cycle of almost 20 years of leftist governments in Bolivia, and followed by Luis Arce.
In his speech, the new president harshly criticized his predecessors’ management and promised a new political direction for the country.
