If you live in Vienna or have already visited it, you may have already been to the Prater. Thrills on the roller coaster, horror on the ghost train or whirling around in the carousel game – the amusement park has a lot to offer. And this has been the case for over 150 years! The Prater was originally the emperor’s hunting ground. The word Prater comes from Latin and means meadow. In 1766, Emperor Josef II decided that the Prater should be open to all Viennese. Soon the first ring games and swings were set up. The World Exhibition opened in 1873 with many attractions. Of course, they have changed again and again since then. The Ferris wheel was added in 1897. The 100 meter high toboggan was first built in 1913 and is the oldest wooden slide in the world. One of the newest attractions is the Vienna Looping, where you repeatedly drive overhead. A more comfortable ride is the Vienna Hochschaubahn, better known as the Zwergerlbahn. At 75 years old, it is the oldest high-rise lift in the Prater.
