CBF announces the technology at a working group meeting that will discuss improvements in Brazilian arbitration
The (Brazilian Football Confederation) confirmed this Monday (10.Nov.2025) the implementation of the semi-automatic offside system in the 2026 Brazilian Championship. The technology will come into operation from the 1st round, on January 28th.
The announcement was made during the inaugural meeting of the Arbitration GT (Working Group), held at the confederation’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
During the meeting, which included representatives from clubs and federations, the CBF presented the system’s implementation schedule, which will include offline tests in 2025, using the final rounds of the current Brasileirão and the decisions of the Copa do Brasil.
This initiative is part of a set of actions aimed at modernizing arbitration in Brazil. The CBF has invested in training, continuing education and physical and theoretical training for referees, areas that have not received substantial investment for years, according to information released at the meeting.
“The modernization begins with our semi-automatic impediment, which we announced for next year. Our Brazilian Championship starts on January 28th, already implemented”said Xaud before the start of the meeting.
Most clubs from Series A and B of the Brazilian Championship sent representatives to participate in the discussions. The meeting, held at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, had as its initial panel a presentation of the functioning of the semi-automatic offside system.
“We are already making investments that had not been made in arbitration for years, with training, continuing education, training, the physical, theoretical part… We thought it was right to also create our Arbitration Working Group and also involve the clubs”these Xaud.
