The governor (PL) announced this Monday (November 10, 2025) a 166% increase in food allowance for military police officers in Rio de Janeiro. The benefit will increase from R$162.60 to R$433.80. According to the state government, the value had been frozen for 20 years. The increase will cover all military police officers working in the State.
The announcement was made in a video published on social media, in which Castro appears alongside the secretary of PMERJ (Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro), Colonel Marcelo Menezes.

The previous week, Alerj (Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro) approved a project to restructure the corporation’s framework proposed by Castro. The text, which is still awaiting sanction from the governor, projects a reduction in the total number of PM personnel to 60,448 soldiers, the creation of new colonel positions for health officers and changes in the nomenclature of officer cadres.
The changes seek to adapt the structure of the Rio de Janeiro PM to (Federal Law 14,751/23). The governor has until next week to sanction the project approved by Alerj.
