The 30th UN Climate Conference began this Monday (10), in Belém, with discussions on global actions against climate change
President Luiz Inácio da Silva spoke, this Monday (10), at the opening of the 30th Climate Conference of (), in (PA). PTista began by paying homage to the state of Pará: “It is very difficult to speak without paying tribute to the people of Pará. You are going to participate in an event in a state that has wonderful people. In this state there are men and women who will take care of you like you have never seen.” “For the next two weeks, Belém will be the capital of the world”, he concluded.
Lula also pointed out the challenge of holding the Conference in Belém and made a comparison with ending pollution on planet Earth. “Holding the COP here is as big a challenge as putting an end to pollution on planet Earth. We decided to accept holding the COP in the state of the Amazon to prove that, when there is political willingness and commitment to the truth, we prove that, for man, nothing is impossible. My congratulations to the delegates and government representatives for giving us all this lesson in civility.”
In a message about the absence of the United States and Russia, the PT member declared that “if men who wage war were at this COP, they would realize that it was easier to put money into solving climate change than into wars, as they did last year”.
President emphasized that “climate change is no longer the threat of the future. It is a tragedy of the present.” “COP30 will be the COP of truth. In the era of disinformation, obscurantists reject the progress of multilateralism and science, sow hatred and attack institutions.” Lula ended by saying that “global warming could push millions of people into poverty and hunger, rolling back decades of progress.”
