During participation in the CNN Esportes S/A this Sunday (9), Ricardo Rocha analyzed the moment of the Brazilian team and the choice of Carlo Ancelotti as coach.
The former defender and four-time world champion praised the Italian and demanded more commitment from the athletes.
Despite his confidence in Ancelotti, he believes that they need to change their stance and bring the same performance to the team that they have at club level.
“There’s a quote that I’ll always quote until the World Cup ends, which was from Rodrygo from Real Madrid. He says: We need to transform what we play at club level into the national team, because that hasn’t happened yet,” he commented.
The former defender also asked for more leadership and protagonism within the group.
What I think is this: these players need to show up. Showing your face doesn’t mean showing up and saying: ‘we’re going to be champions’. It’s inside the locker room. Strong and heavy leadership is lacking.

Rocha praised him and said he was optimistic about the way he leads the locker room.
“I really like what he says, I really like what he preaches, I really like one thing that Brazil needs to improve in recent years, a lot of attention: the locker room. It’s very turbulent, there’s a lot of controversy. Not him, he’s going to kill himself in the chest and he goes: it’s up to me. I trust him blindly”, said the former defender.
He also highlighted the coach’s experience at Real Madrid.
Ancelotti is not just in Brazil, in any country in the world, if you announce him as a coach, people will revere him. I revere him as a coach. “Ah, he never coached the national team.” Already. His Real Madrid is more than many teams.
The four-time champion highlighted that the coach has already sent messages to some players, including Neymar, about the importance of arriving in good shape.
“He has already sent a message to Neymar and to many others: he has to be well. He is a serious, very serious guy, and I have a lot of confidence in what he will pass on to these players.”
Different generations
For the former defender, the group’s challenge is to recover the identity and collective spirit that marked other eras of the Brazilian team.
“It’s a different generation. If you say it differently, I slept with a friend of mine in the room, today we sleep alone.”
Rocha even compared the current moment with that of the champion generations of 1994 and 2002, highlighting the learning that comes from defeats.
We lost 90 to win 94. Roberto Carlos’ generation lost 98 to win 2002. Defeat teaches a lot. I learn more in life in defeat than in victory. Because in victory everyone pats you on the back.
