Cyclists escape by centimeters from out-of-control car at high speed

A group of British cyclists experienced moments of great danger on a road near Sywell, in Northamptonshire, when a driver lost control of his car and crossed the road sideways, almost causing a tragedy. Among the cyclists was George Fox, national record holder in the 10-mile time trial, who described the episode as a “near-disaster.”

The group cycled safely and moved in single file to allow a van to overtake them. A few seconds later, a Suzuki Swift appeared at high speed around a slight curve, slid sideways across the road and came within a few centimeters of the cyclists before colliding with another vehicle following behind.

The dramatic moment was recorded by the rear camera on Fox’s bike and shared on social media, showing the driver completely losing control of the car. Despite the scare, no one suffered serious injuries. Fox described the episode as “one of the scariest moments of my life, but we all came out unharmed, just barely.”

Fox’s post generated numerous comments from other cyclists, many criticizing the driver’s recklessness and highlighting the luck involved in the incident. Harry Macfarlane, British hill climb champion, even suggested that Fox “buy a lottery ticket” due to his luck.

Fox also left a warning for all drivers: “Drive responsibly. The road can be unpredictable and sometimes the difference between life and an accident is just centimeters.”
