Lula’s speech and the “funding challenge” for climate action were also cited by foreign newspapers this Tuesday (11.nov)
The paper versions of international newspapers that brought texts about a (30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change) in their editions this Tuesday (11.nov.2025) they spoke about the absence of the United States at the event, “Financing challenges” of climate actions. They left the critical tone aside to publish excerpts from speeches by authorities.
The opening of the summit was held on Monday (Nov 10) and featured a 12-minute session by the president (PT) and a session by the singer Fafá de Belém and the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes. In his speech, the head of the Executive gave hints to the big techs and the President of the USA, (Republican Party). It compared global military spending with the financing needed to address the climate crisis.
Correspondent Fiona Harvey, from the British newspaper The Guardianquoted the speech of , executive secretary of the (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), in with the title: “The inability to face the climate crisis ‘will never be forgiven’, warns the summit”. The text reads: “Governments that fail to transition to a low-carbon economy will be blamed for hunger and conflict abroad, and will face stagnation and rising inflation in their own countries, says climate chief at start of COP30”.
On the same page, the Guardian also brings an analysis by the environmental journalist, who says that “Trump will hardly be missed in Belém by those who are serious about facing a global crisis.”. Milman stated that the US has not only backed down on climate action, but has also openly advocated for increased use of fossil fuels and the abandonment of climate policies by other countries.
In his column, the journalist from Guardian said that there was relief among some North American diplomats when they learned that the White House would not send representatives to COP30. He stated that, even so, “About 100 U.S. governors and city officials will come to Belém to argue that a large part of the U.S. remains committed to addressing the climate crisis.”.
The Argentine newspaper Clarion also spoke about the absence of the US president at COP30, in the report “Without Trump, Lula opens the Climate Summit with an appeal against ‘denialism’”.
O Clarion mentions that Trump has called global warming “the biggest hoax” of history. He cited the presence of the President of France, (Renaissance, center), who defended “science before ideology”. The French leader participated on November 6th in the meeting that preceded COP30.

Lula’s speech that “It’s cheaper to end the climate problem than to wage war.” was used in the title of the report published in the Portuguese newspaper Publicwho also cited the issue of financing.

Correspondent Sara Gandolfi, from the Italian newspaper Corriere della Serarecalled the 10 years of the Paris Agreement and highlighted Italy’s role at COP30. She also interviewed the Minister of Environment and Energy Security, who stated that “no backward steps allowed”.

The French newspaper Le Figaro brings a report on Amazon communities, “torn between hope and resignation”. The outlet sent a journalist to Puyo, Ecuador, to interview members of the NGO Pachamama, who spoke about the presence of indigenous groups at COP30. “They [indígenas] They are aware that they are part of a finite world. This does not lessen the unfolding tragedy, nor does it stop them from fighting these battles with vigor.”said Rodrigue Gehot.

The Spanish newspaper The Country quoted part of Lula’s speech in which the president talks about disinformation “amidst global fracture”. The vehicle says that COP30 is held in a “complicated international political moment”mentioning Trump’s stance on climate change. Statements by Simon Stiell and , Secretary of Climate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and president of COP30, were also added to the text.
