Thousands of people took part in the Warsaw Independence March

The participants of the Independence March in Warsaw celebrated Poland’s national holiday without major incidents. Thousands of people attended the event.

The participants of the Warsaw Independence March arrived on Tuesday evening at the grounds of the national stadium, where the program continues, which will end at 8:00 p.m. According to the authorities of the capital, this year’s march took place peacefully and without serious incidents. According to the city, 100,000 people attended, but the organizers talked about 250,000-300,000 participants. The Warsaw correspondent TASR informs about it.

The City Security Center (SCB) recorded only one incident, which was not caused by the marchers. “One of the participants of the rally organized by left-wing organizations threw a flare on the steps of the US consulate,” SCB director Jaroslaw Misztal said, according to the PAP agency. He emphasized that there was no damage and the police are trying to identify the perpetrator.

Political figures on the march

The march started with a slight delay, which, according to Misztal, was related to the participation of President Karol Nawrocký. Representatives of the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, including Jaroslaw Kaczynski and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, as well as the leader of the Confederation and Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak, walked alongside the head of state.

The mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, confirmed to the PAP agency that no serious incidents were recorded. However, he reminded that not all participants complied with the ban on the use of pyrotechnics, and the city police will take action in these cases. “I hope that this year the march will be peaceful, especially considering the participation of the president,” he added.

Poland’s Independence Day

The march takes place on the occasion of Independence Day – a national holiday commemorating the restoration of Poland’s independence after the First World War.
