This Wednesday, the Arbitration Council takes stock of the first rounds of the professional football leagues. The president, Luciano Gonçalves, and the technical director, Duarte Gomes, will address controversial cases.

This Wednesday, the Arbitration Council will take stock of the first 10 rounds. Pedro Henriques, former football referee, explains what can be expected from this press conference.

Pedro Henriques clarifies that the Arbitration Council’s press conference this Wednesday “it’s not a reaction” to the latest episodes with referees, players and clubs. On August 6, the body had already said that it would carry out several assessments, which are part of a “package of transparency and communication measures”.

The balance will only be until round 10in relation to around 200 games from the I and II leagues, clarifies.

The press conference is scheduled for 11:00, in Cidade do Futebol.

In the Morning Edition of SIC Notícias, Pedro Henriques explains that when president of the Arbitration CouncilLuciano Gonçalves, is responsible for appointments, classifications, regulations and institutional relations.

Duarte Gomes, on the other hand, national technical directoris responsible for the “more technical part”, that is, field work, training, preparation, strategies, standardization of rules and talent recruitment.

“What I think there may be issues with is trying to understand Fábio Veríssimo’s report, the zealous strike, whether the arbitration council is in the know, whether it is not”, says the former football referee.

Pedro Henriques states that national arbitration has a “lack of competence problem”. It remains to be seen what the arbitration board is doing or will do in the long and short term, he points out.
