The general secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), Paulo Raimundo
The secretary general of the PCP warned this Sunday of the Government’s “move” to remove from the labor package, without a “possible patch”, proposals “so disgusting” that they were only put forward to let them fall and appear to be giving in, to leave out the discussion of the “guidelines”.
The word “” seems to have come into vogue in the lexicon of national politics, this time brought by the voice of the secretary general of the PCP, Paulo Raimundowhich with it designated some of the government’s proposals in the new Labor Law package.
“This labor package has no patch possiblel, the only solution is to remove each and every one of the 100 proposals which it incorporates”, defended Paulo Raimundo in his speech this Sunday at the closing of the 13th Portuguese Communist Youth Congress (JCP), in Oeiras.
This labor package, according to the general secretary of the PCP, was “written by the hands of economic groups and to whom PSD, CDS, Chega and IL give voice”, having anticipated “the maneuver that is underway”.
“In the coming times, hours or days this or that proposal will fall that, so disgusting That is, it was only in the Government’s current proposal to fall at the first opportunity. This play will be sold as a concession”, he warned.
According to the leader of the PCP, “we will look for install the debate on this” and stop out of the discussion the “master lines”.
“Those that really interest capital, those stay. I would say, they stay because we will not allow them to stay to dismantle our lives,” he said.
Raimundo challenged the prime minister, Luis Montenegroexplaining to young workers, 54% of whom live in precarious conditions, “why they want even more fixed-term contracts, even more fake green slips, even more fragility”.
“Come, eye to eye with youth, sell the virtues of deregulation even longer working hours”, he urged.
For the general secretary of the PCP, “in the face of the brutal ongoing attack there is only one possible answer” and this involves “elevating the fight and moving towards the” announced for December 11th.
“A journey for which all workers, those who create wealththose who make the country work, and in particular the youth, have strong reasons to say no to the labor package, to build and join the general strike”, he appealed, before an audience of young communists.
From Raimundo’s perspective, on the day of the general strike “the battle of life will not be fought, but It is also a better life that will be at stake that day.”
“On December 11th, the strength of the youth will also be asserted. This youth is counting on the PCP and the JCP so that they can find the conditions in Portugal to study here, to work here and to be happy here”, he promised.
The PCP leader also criticized those who “like to talk about nationality, but cover ‘gold’ visasthis is a door wide open purchase of nationality, corruption and money laundering”.
These are “the same ones who distill hatred against unions to serve and protect the interests of the employers”, concluded the communist leader.
Also this Sunday, the secretary general of UGT, Mário Mourãoexplained that the union organization went ahead with the general strike scheduled for December 11th because it was backed against the wall by the Government.
The union leader stated that if the executive presents “a sheet” equal to the one recently delivered, there will be no other alternative: “Maybe what we have to think about is, instead of just being one”.
The general strike of December 11th was announced on the 8th by the general secretary of the CGTP, Tiago Oliveiraat the end of the national march against the labor package, which led thousands of workers to descend Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon, in protest against the changes proposed by the Government of Luís Montenegro.
This will be the first strike to bring together the two unions, since June 2013, when Portugal was under intervention by the troika.
