I will convince Trump on the climate issue

Donald Trump did not attend or send representatives to COP30, in Belém, and withdrew the country from the Paris Agreement

The president (PT) stated on Wednesday (19.Nov.2025) that he is so happy with the developments of the (30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change), held in Belém, that he will convince the president of the United States, (Republican Party), about the importance of the climate agenda.

“I’m happy. I’m so happy that one day I will convince the US president that the climate issue is serious and that green development is necessary.”in Belém.

Trump did not send representatives from the US federal government either. As soon as he assumed the US Presidency, in his 2nd term, the Republican, signed a commitment in 2015 around the goal of keeping global warming below 1.5ºC to 2ºC.

“In a COP, nothing is imposed. Everything has to be by consensus. Everything has to be discussed a lot. And we respect the political, ideological, territorial and cultural sovereignty of each country. We don’t want to impose anything. We just want to say: ‘It’s possible’. And if it’s possible, let’s try to build it together”said the president, alongside , minister of the Environment, and , president of COP30.

Lula also spoke about the Brazilian proposal to build a road map for countries to abandon fossil fuels and make the energy transition. “We need to show society that we want, without imposing anything on anyone, without determining a deadline, that each country is the owner of determining the things it can do within its time, within its possibilities. But we are serious. We need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions”he stated.

BELÉM AND “PEOPLE’S COP”

Lula said that COP30 was the “best COP ever”with all the challenges of holding an event of this size in Belém. “It was very important for us to put the Amazon as it is in the minds of people around the world”stated the president.

He also declared that COP30 was better than the previous ones, because, in Belém, “the people were more people”and mentioned the different sectors of society that participated in the conference. “Everyone has a role in society and this COP was a bit like that. That’s why it was held in Belém. Here the people participated more. This here can be called the first COP for the people of the entire world, because here there were people from all over the world demonstrating”, these.

At the end of his speech, Lula said that, in addition to convincing the President of the United States about the climate agenda, he dreams of putting an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“I’m so happy that I dream of one day ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, that there is no longer any reason for this war to continue. I’m so happy that I’m leaving here to go to Brasília, certain that my negotiators will produce the best result that a COP could ever offer to planet Earth”said the president.

This Thursday, Lula will participate, alongside vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, in the opening of the Auto Show, in São Paulo.

GERMANY AT TFFF

During her statements to journalists, Marina stated that she made a contribution of 1 billion euros (around R$6.1 billion) to the (Tropical Forests Forever Fund). According to Marina, Germany’s announcement is a result “of all the effort that has been made and a demonstration that, in fact, this global financing instrument is very well designed, very well structured and is beginning to provide answers”.

The fund was an initiative launched by President Lula to remunerate countries for preserving tropical forests. The TFFF aims to bring together a volume of US$125 billion and, according to Brazilian government estimates, will be able to distribute US$4 billion per year after the initial implementation period, almost 3 times the current level of international financing allocated to forests.
