Indication
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) appointed, this Thursday (21), the attorney general of the Union, Jorge Messias, to the vacancy left by Luís Roberto Barroso in the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Barroso retired last month. The nomination was sealed in a meeting with the AGU at Palácio da Alvorada.
After formal nomination by the President of the Republic, the chosen one must undergo a hearing at the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the Senate and, subsequently, be approved by the plenary. In the CCJ, a simple majority is enough; in the plenary, approval requires an absolute majority, at least 41 votes.
